How To Make a Simple Sticker Text Effect In Illustrator

Hey there, art enthusiasts!  You've probably seen a lot of text effects in Illustrator that piqued your interest and that you've wanted to try or include in one of your projects, so here I am with one today. In this tutorial, you will learn how to make a simple sticker text effect in Illustrator.

To begin, you will learn how to create and add text in Illustrator. Using the appearance panel and a clever path effect, you will learn how to add the sticker effect to text in Adobe Illustrator.

What You Will Need:

✔️ adobe illustrator

✔️ THIS JULY font

Step 1: New document in illustrator:

To begin, open Adobe Illustrator and create a new document (follow my new document settings down below).

Use any size that is appropriate for your final application, but make sure the RGB mode is chosen so that the most vibrant colors are accessible.

Step 2: Adding the text:

Now that you've got everything set up, let's look at how to apply the sticker effect to text in Illustrator.

Create a text element with the suitable font style for your specified phrase, THIS JULY is the font i'm using here.

✔️Select the Type Tool (T).

✔️Open the Character panel (Window > Type > Character).

✔️Set the font size to 600 px

✔️ The THIS JULY typeface.



Step 3: Select your palette:

Step 4: Adding the sticker effect:

I love using the appearance panel, so I'll be using it in this tutorial.

➜ Go to Window > Appearance or press Shift + F6.

➜ Make sure the text is selected before taking any of the following steps.

➜ Add a new fill using the appearance menu on the right side of the appearance panel.

➜ Add the first color to the text.

➜ Add a new fill and add the other color.

➜ Choose the final one, then go to the effect (fx) section of the appearance panel and select path > offset path.

➜ Change the settings as indicated in the image below to get the sticker effect.

This is how you can create a sticker text effect. Now try this technique with a different word or sentence. Feel free to make changes and add your personal touch to the final result to make it your own.
